“ENSNARED.” by Liv Harvey

That was the diagnosis—and the prognosis, too. Some precise way of dictating just how
unfortunate of a cause I had become. It sounded musical, springing from the crinkled mouth of a
specialist that had seen many cases before. When he pushed up his glasses—very classically
doctorish, this one was—I caught a glimpse of my own reflection in the lenses. Crumpled beside
a hedge. Caught between loops of wire that I couldn’t begin to understand. Without dexterous
hands, my chance of making it out on my own was slim to none.

A device squealed and crackled loudly by my long ears as he crouched and examined just how
bloody I had become. My reddish eye had no choice but to swivel his way. My nostrils flared.

“Almost looks pink, with the white fur,” he chuckled. Nobody else seemed to think it was funny.

I took silent refuge in that.
